The Girl Scouts of the United States of America is a secular, non-governmental non-profit with the mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Religious institutions may offer their facilities as safe, community-centers, but may not sponsor the troop(s) which meet there. Likewise, no troop may claim a predominent religious affiliation. Rather, individual scouts are encouraged to learn about and live out their own faith. This page provides information, contacts, and resources to facilitate your Catholic Scout to earn her religious emblems.
The Catholic religious recognition programs is administered by the National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire (NCCGSCF) under the auspices of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). These programs allow young women to explore and become more involved in their Catholic faith. All programs are designed to support and complement the catechetical efforts of Catholic parishes and schools.
These religious recognition programs may be utilized by members of:
| Family of God: This bilingual program helps children in 2nd and 3rd grades (ages 7-9) discover the presence of God as members of their family and parish. | |
| I Live My Faith: This booklet helps girls in 4-6th grades (ages 9-11) more fully appreciate the place of God and religion in their lives and helps them live their faith from day to day. | |
| Mary, the First Disciple: Girls in 7-10th grades (ages 12-15) are encouraged to proclaim the greatness of the Lord by learning about and imitating Mary as a model of openness and spirituality. | |
| Spirit Alive: High school students (ages 15-18) will discover how the Holy Spirit moves in their lives, calling them to greater participation in the life, work, and mission of the church. |
