CATHOLIC SCHOOLS AND UTAH HISTORY
The Catholic School System has maintained a strong presence in the history of Utah education. The first Catholic school was opened in approximately 1875. St. Mary's Academy in Salt Lake City was the first Catholic elementary and high school in Utah. Ogden soon followed with an elementary school in 1877. Shortly thereafter, schools were opened in the mining towns of Park City, Silver Reef, and Eureka. By the early 1900's additional schools were established in Salt Lake City, Provo, and Price. Today, there are ten elementary schools and three high schools located in Ogden, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Kearns, Draper, Holladay, and Sandy. Most of the elementary schools also provide a pre-school program and extended day care service along with their daily curriculum. |
